Susan Johnson of Susan’s Healthy Gourmet Announced as Semi-Finalist in Ernst & Young 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

IRVINE, Calif., May 4, 2010—Susan Johnson, founder and CEO of Susan’s Healthy Gourmet (susanshealthygourmet.com), the company that pioneered the concept of fresh and healthy portion-controlled meals delivered to homes twice weekly throughout California, was announced as a semi-finalist in the 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Awards in Orange County. Each year, the EOY program recognizes and applauds entrepreneurial leaders and visionaries whose growth contributes to the strength of their communities and economy.

Johnson launched Susan’s Healthy Gourmet in 1996 and has been growing the company ever since. In 2003, with daughter Kerry Johnson Anthony, she acquired LifeSpring Home Nutrition, a company that delivers healthy frozen meals to seniors throughout Orange County through distributor organizations such as the Orange County Office on Aging and SCAN Health Plan. Johnson’s newest venture, Xan Confections (www.xanconfections.com), was launched with Kerry Johnson Anthony and famed Orange County chocolatier Tracey Downey in early 2009. Xan Confections’ all-natural, artisan chocolates range from being traditionally decadent to guiltlessly indulgent, including low-calorie, vegan and gluten-free sweets.

“It is a wonderful honor to be selected a semi-finalist for the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award,” said Susan Johnson. “The growth we have experienced over the past 15 years has been phenomenal – we’ve steadily increased our revenue, and our initial flagship has been joined by two additional thriving entities. I have an outstanding, dedicated team to thank for the success of Susan’s Healthy Gourmet, LifeSpring and Xan.”

Johnson’s companies are continuing to grow at a rapid rate. Xan Confections, launched a little over a year ago, is currently being offered in nearly 150 locations across 17 states. Susan’s Healthy Gourmet (SHG), which has provided the meals for participants in VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club,” takes pride in keeping its customers satisfied by offering a wide range of customizable meal options suitable for all demographic and dietary needs, while not imposing restrictive minimum order requirements. SHG is currently focusing on expansion of its services into Northern California, with an eventual goal to serve customers nationally. Johnson is also developing an initiative to increase availability of the LifeSpring brand to seniors nationally.
