IRVINE, Calif., April 13, 2009—Susan Johnson, founder and CEO of Susan’s Heathy Gourmet (susanshealthygourmet.com), the company that pioneered the concept of fresh and healthy meals delivered to homes twice weekly throughout Southern California, was announced as a semi-finalist in the 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Awards in Orange County. Each year, the EOY program recognizes and applauds entrepreneurial leaders and visionaries who contribute to the strength of their communities and economy.
Johnson launched Susan’s Healthy Gourmet in 1996 and has been growing the company ever since. In 2003 she acquired LifeSpring Home Nutrition, a company that delivers healthy frozen meals to seniors throughout Orange County through distributor organizations such as the Orange County Office on Aging and SCAN Health Plan. Earlier this year, Johnson expanded into a 15,000-square-foot facility in Irvine, which provides triple the kitchen space from the previous location. The new headquarters accommodates LifeSpring and Johnson’s latest venture, Xan Confections, maker of gourmet artisan chocolates to satisfy everyone from traditionalist chocoholics to vegans and diabetics.
“To be a semi-finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award is an incredible honor,” said Susan Johnson. “The growth that we have experienced with flagship Susan’s Healthy Gourmet, along with LifeSpring, has been exceptional. It is a true privilege to be recognized for our efforts along with so many other outstanding entrepreneurs.”
Susan’s Healthy Gourmet, which has provided the meals for participants in VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club,” takes pride in keeping its customers satisfied by offering a wide range of customizable meal options suitable for all demographic and dietary needs, while not imposing restrictive minimum order requirements. For the future, the company plans to focus on expansion of its services into Northern California, with an eventual goal to serve customers nationally. As the trend of an increase in healthy eating and home meal replacement continues to grow, Susan’s Healthy Gourmet is working to expand its menus, while also developing an initiative to increase availability of the LifeSpring Home Nutrition brand to seniors nationally.
