PACKAGING Susan's Healthy Gourmet dinners are individually packaged in black, microwave-safe containers. Breakfasts come in clear plastic bags unless they are intended to be heated, in which case they are presented in microwave-safe containers. Lunches come in clear containers and are meant to be eaten cold except where indicated. Adjustments for the 1,125, 1,500 and 1,800 calorie levels are made through portion size. QUALITY & FRESHNESS To ensure the highest quality of freshness, we’ve labeled each Main Menu meal with the day of the week best eaten. As a general rule, the more perishable meals such as salads and seafood should be eaten first. FOOD NOTES If a particular fruit or vegetable is not available or does not meet our freshness standards, we reserve the right to make comparable substitutions. We encourage you to add herbs and spices to your meals to accommodate your individual taste. Every precaution is taken to eliminate pesticides from Susan's Healthy Gourmet foods. We wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly, except for grapes and berries, which are highly susceptible to molds after exposure to water. To further ripen fruits, keep them at room temperature. CAUTION: We make every effort to remove all shells, stones or similar particles from our food. However, it is possible for them to be missed occasionally. Please eat carefully. SUBSTITUTIONS: If there is a particular fruit or vegetable you prefer not to receive, we will substitute another item in its place for a nominal fee. Please note the accuracy of substitutions is not guaranteed. We reserve the right to make comparable substitutions depending on market availability. We are not responsible for allergic reactions to any food items. MICROWAVE USE: Vent dishes. Use full power for two to three minutes depending on the quantity and density of the meal. If desired, microwave breakfast pastries slightly for fuller flavor. OVEN USE: Place in an oven-safe dish. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Depending on the quantity and density of the meal, heat for 15 to 25 minutes or until hot. FREEZING: Dinners may be frozen. Wrap container in foil or plastic wrap. To heat frozen dinner, remove wrapping, then heat for five to six minutes in the microwave or for 25 minutes at 400 degrees in a conventional oven in an oven-safe dish. Never defrost before heating. VEGETARIAN DINNERS Our vegetarian menu is planned according to the lacto-ovo vegetarian guidelines with no meat or meat products. Low-fat dairy products are used to lessen the risk of a protein- or calcium-deficient diet and to enhance flavors. All meals have the proper food combinations to supply complete protein requirements. The vegetarian dinners are offered in only one calorie level, varying from 375 to 525 calories per meal, and 1500 calories per day. STORAGE Refrigerate your meals immediately at 38 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. In warm weather, use a cooler with ice for transporting meals. Take the meals out of their bag before placing them in the refrigerator. MEDICAL NOTES Contact your doctor before starting any diet or exercise program. Medical supervision is suggested for persons who have a medical or metabolic problem such as diabetes, heart disease, or kidney ailments. Drinking two glasses of skim milk per day for added calcium is suggested. (One cup of skim milk = 86 calories.) Drink plenty of purified water. It is a good practice to take a multi-vitamin tablet containing 100 percent of the U.S.R.D.A. We recommend that you lose no more than two pounds per week. DELIVERY If you are not present to receive an order, we will leave a cooler with ice packs and charge your account for a $25 refundable deposit.
